From 2017 to 2019 he was the President of the Italian Society of Evolutionary Biology (SIBE-ISEB), the first philosopher of science to hold this position (2015-2017 vice-president).
Since 2009, member of the Scientific Committee of the Umberto Veronesi Foundation for the Advancement of Science, Milan; since 2012 he has also been a member of the Ethics Committee of the Foundation.
In November 2022 he was appointed Active Member of the Class of Physical and Economic Sciences of the “Ateneo di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti di Bergamo”.
In December 2023 he was appointed Honorary Fellow of the Accademia Nazionale di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti, Palermo.
In May 2016 he was appointed Full Member - for the Class of Physical, Mathematical and Natural Sciences - of the “Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti”, Venice (after having been Non-Resident Corresponding Member since 2007).
In November 2013 he was appointed Non-Resident Corresponding Member - for the Class of Sciences - of the Academy of Sciences, Turin.
In December 2014 he was appointed Non-Resident Corresponding Member - for the Class of Science and Technology - of the Olympic Academy of Vicenza.
Since 2018, member of the Editorial Committee of the “Istituto della Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani”, Rome.
Since 2020, honorary member of “CICAP - Comitato Italiano per il Controllo delle Affermazioni sulle Pseudoscienze”.

In 2022 he served on the Steering Committee of “Grande MAXXI project” at MAXXI Museum in Rome.
In September 2022, the Rector of the Polytechnic University of Turin appointed him to the Committee of Guarantors of the Turin Technology Biennale.
In December 2022, the City of Padua appointed him President of the Jury of the Galileo Literary Prize for Science Communication, edition 2023.
In December 2023 he was appointed member of the Scientific Committee of the Alleanza Italiana per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile - ASviS, Rome.
